Recapture The Blue Pack Alpha Female |
|
|
The
Mexican Gray Wolf Interagency Field Team will begin an attempt to trap
the Campbell Blue Pack’s alpha female to return her to captivity following
an incident with a rancher on Friday, April 14. The female will not
be a candidate for rerelease.
The rancher was riding horseback with six dogs that morning in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, Greenlee County, Arizona, and encountered the Campbell Blue Pack on the trail. The pack began interacting with the dogs. The rancher was able to scare the yearlings away, but the adults would not leave. In spite of the rancher’s efforts, the alpha female continued to act aggressively toward the dogs and the horse. The rancher was able to get his dogs and horse into a barn along Eagle Creek and the wolves moved off after approximately 20 minutes. The Campbell Blue pack includes two yearling females along with the adult pair. Field team members responded immediately to the situation and following investigation accompanied the rancher from the area. One dog suffered small puncture wounds in the back and stomach. There were no other injuries. |
