Helping Wildlife Where it Counts--Where Wildlife Lives!

In 1999 the New Mexico Habitat Stamp Program will make $855,000.00 available for the improvement of wildlife habitat on New Mexico's Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and U.S. Forest Service (USFS) lands. These funds will be used for a variety of projects such as:

  • prescribed fires
  • water developments
  • riparian restoration and protection
  • fishery improvements
  • fence modification or construction
  • maintenance of existing projects
  • wildlife surveys
  • law enforcement
Rowe Mesa Wetland is a project designed to protect and enhance riparian areas on the Santa Fe National Forest. Above, one of numerous sites that are affected by project work.

Each time a habitat stamp validation is purchased, sportsmen and women of our state reinforce their support and commit-ment to New Mexico's wildlife. You must purchase a stamp if you hunt and fish on U.S. Forest Service or BLM lands.

Wind Mountain Trick Tank is located on lands administered by the Taos Field Office of the BLM. Above, a structure collects, stores, and provides rainwater to numerous types of wildlife long after the rains have stopped.
